Plasma in Open Magnetic Trap. OMT-1 and OMT-2 Devices

In 1970 the open magnetic trap OMT-1 has been put into operation in our department and experimental investigations of wave interaction with plasma have started on it. These investigations have been performed in close collaboration with theoretical studies going in our department. The main goal was investigation of the physical processes of plasma-wave interaction and development of the methods of plasma heating by ultra high frequency (UHF) waves. On the basis of the results of these investigations we have built the new device OMT-2 with higher characteristic parameters in 1980. This device gave us the possibility to study the above mentioned processes in wider range of parameters.

Both devices have been designed and constructed by us at the Institute of Physics.
