Georgian Academy of Sciences founded the Institute of Physics in December 1950. The Institute remained
in the system of the Georgian Academy of Sciences until 2006. At present Elevter Andronikashvili
Institute of Physics is part of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University as an independent scientific research institute.
The Institute of Physics gained modern scientific potential thanks to the efforts of Professor
Elevter Andronikashvili. He directed the Institute during nearly 40 years. Elevter Andronikashvili
gained international recognition thanks to his fundamental experiments investigating superfluid properties of liquid helium.
